A little bit about us

Happy Owl Media, Inc. is a television production company dedicated to authentic storytelling and great characters. Happy Owl Media is based in Brooklyn and founded by Kathleen Minton and Pauline Mason, who have many years of combined experience in documentary and reality television. Our combined awards include an Emmy nomination, Gracie Award, Houston Film Festival Gold Award, WIN nomination, Parent’s Choice Gold Awards, Broadcast Design Award, 2 Cable Ace nominations and 3 NAACP/Image nominations.

Recently Kathleen and Pauline completed two, half hour docu-comedy pilots for the Travel Channel featuring a family based business and a two hour feature documentary for OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network) which was in the top 20 broadcast for the night it aired. In addition they have previously secured development deals from Planet Green and the Science Channel.

While Pauline and Kathleen were at Oxygen they supervised multiple daily live productions and multiple reality and magazine style shows, as well as coordinated film crews worldwide in Afghanistan, Sudan, Iraq, Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates.

Kathy Minton, President of Happy Owl Media

Kathleen Minton is Creator/Executive Producer of “The Shift” for Investigation Discovery Channel. “The Shift” is 26, one-hour episodes of a docu-series that focuses on a group of homicide detectives from Indianapolis. It quickly became the network’s highest rated series. Also, Kathleen recently completed a 2 hour feature doc for the OWN channel called “Prostitution: Leaving the Life”, which was filmed inside a Chicago women’s prison.

Kathleen has also served as Vice President/Executive Producer of Oxygen Media for 8 plus years where she created a variety of award winning shows, including 26 episodes of “Women and the Badge”, 26 episodes of “Your Money and Your Life” and 26 episodes of “Real Weddings from the Knot”. While at Oxygen, Kathleen had two of the top rated shows in the history of the network. She Executive Produced several specials including “World of Women” starring Iman and “Bad Girls” featuring Kevin Bacon, Laila Ali and Drew Barrymore. She also served as Executive in Charge of “The Isaac Mizrahi Show”, VP Production and VP Programming, where she helped launch the network with partners Oprah Winfrey, Carsey Warner and Geraldine Laybourne.

Prior to Oxygen, Kathleen was the Founder/President of Perez Minton Productions, a multi-million dollar production company dedicated to multi-cultural children’s programming. Through her company, Kathleen is the Creator/Executive Producer of Nickelodeon’s award winning pre-school show “Gullah Gullah Island”.

Prior to this, Kathleen was an animator/producer for Colossal Pictures where she was an animator/colorist/animation cameraperson for such clients as Nickelodeon, many MTV ID’s and Sesame Street. She was also the Executive Producer at Emmy award winning animation studio The Ink Tank where she produced an animated stop motion Hitachi spot which aired during the Super Bowl.


Pauline Mason, Happy Owl Media

Pauline Mason is one of the principals of Happy Owl Media and Co-Executive Producer of “The Shift”, 26 one-hour episodes for Investigation Discovery. She also Executive Produced a 2 hour feature doc for the OWN channel called “Prostitution: Leaving the Life”, which was filmed inside a Chicago women’s prison.

Prior to this Pauline was at Oxygen Media for over 6 years, acting as Director of Production and Director of Post Production for the launch of the women’s network. She was also Supervising Producer, Line Producer and Writer on a number of Oxygen shows, including  “Women and the Badge”, “Real Weddings from the Knot”, “World of Women” starring Iman, “Oxygen Shorts”, featuring short films from around the globe including countries like Sudan and South Africa, and “Preston Bailey, Mr. Fabulous”, one of the highest rated specials in the history of the network.

Other networks where she worked include Nickelodeon where she was Coordinating Producer for 18 half-hour episodes of “Gulllah Gullah Island”, an Emmy Award nominated children’s show and HBO on “The Chris Rock Show.”
